The brand-new 4-cylinder turbocharged engines are designed to excite, even at lower speeds, with sprightly acceleration off the starting line. The standard models come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, producing 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. With the 7-speed Porsche PDK, which features a manual and automatic mode, gear changes are quick, and the 718 Boxster can go from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.7 seconds.
The S models come with a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. You’ll feel the extra power on one of these trims, as this engine checks in at 350 horsepower. When the vehicle is below four MPH, the efficient auto start/stop technology will kick in. If you’re stopped at a red light, the engine will work in its fuel-saving mode, then restart when the vehicle starts moving again.
Inside the Cabin
The cabin setup starts with the center console with a tachometer positioned in the center, designed to put the driver’s needs first. Functionality and design are linked together in every Porsche. The Porsche Communication Management system with a 7-inch touchscreen and optional navigation functionality enhances every drive, while the instrument cluster’s color screen provides a wealth of vehicle data.
Grip the lightweight sport steering wheel, with 3-spoke design, with gearshift paddles available to give you more control over shifting. The available GT sport steering wheel has a smaller diameter, for more of a motorsport driving feel. The comfortable seats come with lumbar support, and an available heated option. Seat ventilation is also possible for a dry environment, even when the temperatures rise.
Porsche Communication Management
Porsche Communication Management is your go-to unit for all infotainment, and comes standard in each 718 Boxster. The high-resolution touch display and proximity sensor allow for easy operation. Connect a smartphone or other audio source using the USB port. There’s also an internal hard drive and a pair of SD card readers if you want to play your favorite songs while driving.
Porsche Connect also comes with two smartphone apps. Porsche Car Connect lets you use a smartphone or smart watch to access vehicle data and control vehicle functions remotely. The Porsche Connect app allows you to send destinations to your vehicle. Transfer them to the navigation system, and you’ll be on your way.
